Christmas Party Entertainment

Comedy magician, mentalist and MC for work Christmas parties and end of year functions across New Zealand

The work Christmas party is the one night of the year that exists purely to say thanks. No agenda, no sessions, no targets. Just the whole team in one room at the end of a long year, with the only job being that everyone has a great night and goes home feeling properly looked after!

The trouble is, most of them look the same. People arrive, find the colleagues they already sit next to, and stay in that corner all night. The room never quite becomes one room.

Brendan Dooley is a comedy magician, mentalist and MC based in Auckland, working Christmas parties and end of year functions across New Zealand every November and December. 1,500+ shows in 15+ countries behind him, including headlining at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood and on luxury cruise lines worldwide.

What a Christmas party booking can look like

Cocktail Magic and Mindreading. Working the room up close and personal while the drinks are flowing. World class modern magic and insane mindreading, happening inches away in people’s own hands and right inside their heads! Small groups pull together, colleagues from different teams end up laughing at the same thing, and by the time everyone sits down the volume in the room is already up. Everyone goes home with an impossible story to tell about the work do.

The Signature Show. the story they take home. Now we bring together the ultimate joint experience! A feature set blending modern magic, quick witted comedy, insane mindreading, cheeky pickpocketing and dexterous stunts into a fully interactive experience the whole team shares at the same moment. It features material regularly performed as a headliner at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood and on luxury cruise lines worldwide, and because half the room has already met him, it feels personal rather than a show tacked on the end.

Event MC. Stepping in as your main man on the ground, keeping the night flowing and the energy high from the first welcome to the last thank you. Brendan studies the event and what it is for, gets to know your group and learns the names of the people he meets through the room, so the hosting comes from someone who knows who is who. Your key people get introduced properly, speeches and shout outs stay tight, your team get treated like rockstars, and there are backup plans from B to Z for whatever the night throws up!

Most Christmas parties use one or two of these, and some use all three. Nothing is run against a clock, so the night gets shaped around your run sheet.

Built for the work Christmas party

One room, not ten little groups. Teams spread across sites, hybrid teams who have barely been in the same room all year, new starters who only know their manager. The whole point of the night is mixing, and cocktail magic is built to make that happen without anyone being herded.

Fun for everyone, not just the loud ones. A work party is still work for some of the room. Not everyone drinks, and not everyone wants to be dragged on stage in front of the CEO. Brendan reads that. The people who want in get involved, the ones who don’t get left alone, and nobody ends up the butt of the joke. Cheeky, but clean.

The good bit in the right spot. Most Christmas parties save the entertainment until the end, just as a third of the room is checking the Uber app. Brendan will help you place it where the room is actually ready for it, so the energy builds and then gets handed over to the bar and the dance floor.

Small team or full company. A 20 person team dinner and a 600 person function in a ballroom need different things. The planning call covers exactly what your room, your people and your run sheet need.

Backup plans from B to Z. Speeches run long, the kitchen falls behind, the microphone dies. None of it becomes your problem on the night!

What clients say

“We are beyond happy with Brendan’s service at our end of year function. He was engaging, approachable, professional and left an imprint on all that attended. In all my years of organising end of year events and corporate functions I’ve never received this level of positive feedback. Our team were talking about Brendan’s magic for weeks. His show wasn’t only engaging, it felt personal. He remembered people’s names from earlier in the night when he mingled with the crowd, which made them feel special. Having something at the end of his show that engaged the whole room blew everyone away and gave them all something to talk about, as they had all experienced it together. 100% book him and prepare to be WOWED!”

Kiwi Property

“Phenomenal. Without Brendan, these two back-to-back conferences and award nights would not have been the roaring successes that they were! His humour, organisational skills and insane magic kept the event flowing and the audience engaged. The event went from a little unsure to connected, enthused and absolutely together. One attendee even grabbed the mic for an impromptu thank you followed by a standing ovation! We’ve already locked him in for next year in Australia before the event had even ended. Don’t hesitate, just hire him!”

Mike Pero

“We couldn’t have been more thrilled with Brendan. He did such a phenomenal job from start to finish, and he was a BIG HIT! The audience LOVED him. We’ve never had so many rave reviews about an MC before. He was hilarious, read the audience amazingly, and was respectful to our guests and knowledgeable about the event. He easily transitioned from close-up magic in the pre-function space to MC to magician to witty raconteur and back to MC, the perfect package. 1,000% would I recommend Brendan as both an MC and an entertainer. He’s just brilliant!

Master Electricians

“Brendan’s performance at the Gala Award Dinner brought our guests together by creating a shared experience full of laughter, surprise and engagement. His captivating magic and witty humour broke the ice, allowing everyone to relax, connect and enjoy the evening more deeply. He was incredibly engaging, wonderful on stage, and connected brilliantly with all of our conference attendees. We feel so lucky to have had him with us and he will be back!”

Stonewood Homes

“Brendan’s contribution to our recent event was nothing short of outstanding! He delivered a captivating and engaging performance that held the audience in the palm of his hand from start to finish. His ability to read the room and adapt to the audience’s energy and mood was particularly impressive, ensuring every moment felt tailored and impactful. There was such a buzz around the office the next day, with people recounting how amazing his performance was! The shared experience of Brendan’s entertainment brought our group together and sparked fun discussions. Having him at your next event is simply a no-brainer!”

Planning an event in Queenstown?

Three to six months for most corporate events, and earlier for the peak stretch from October to December. Destination events are often locked in a year or more ahead. Last minute enquiries are always worth an ask, because diaries change.

As early as you can. November and early December are the busiest weeks of the year, and Friday nights book out months ahead. Last minute enquiries are still worth an ask, because diaries do change.

Yes. The material is cheeky but clean, and built for rooms with every age, role and background in them. Nobody gets embarrassed and nobody is the butt of the joke.

Only the ones who want to be. Brendan reads the room during the cocktail magic, so by the time the show starts he already knows who is up for it and who would rather watch.

Yes, and it often works best that way. One person handles the cocktail magic, the formalities and a feature spot, having already met half the room by the time he picks up the mic.

Yes. Audiences range from 20 people around a dinner table to thousands in a ballroom, and the night gets shaped to fit.

Absolutely, and plenty of companies do. Venues are easier to book and the team is rested. Brendan works through the new year.

All the time. Travel is discussed upfront and covered in one clear quote, so there are no surprises later.

Very little for cocktail magic. For a show or MC work, a microphone and a spot where the whole room can see. The details get sorted in the planning call well before the day.
